Chapter 1: This photo book is a record of a period of time, before it is a record of a city.
"Lights and Shadows of Macau" is not merely a collection of photographs of the city of Macau.
This book captures a period of time when, as much as the city's appearance, there was a collapse, a wandering, a standstill, yet a gaze that was never lost.

Macau was not a city I intended to photograph from the beginning.
In fact, for a time, it was a city I wished I could forget.
Nevertheless, I ultimately compiled a photo book about that city.
The reason for this is not solely due to the city's inherent charm.
It's because my own perspective fundamentally changed in this place.
